To all Birch Rock campers, alums, and families (past, present and future):

We are announcing the BIRCH ROCK OUTING CLUB to allow us to get together in outdoors during the fall, winter, and spring.

We will have our inaugural hike on September 16, 2017 on Welch-Dickey Loop Trail in Thornton, NH.  Here are the details:

WHO:  Birch Rock families, alumni, and friends, including any prospective Birch Rock families

WHEN:  Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 9:30 am-10:00 am at the trailhead.  (Rain date:  Sunday, September 17)

WHERE: Welch-Dickey Loop Trail

Location: Thornton, NH

Distance: 4.4 mile loop

Vertical Rise: 1,800 feet

Rated as a moderate hike but ledges are slippery in wet weather

Estimated time: 3.5-5 hours

White Mountain National Forest user fee: $3

DIRECTIONS:  The trail is located off NH 49 at the entrance to Waterville Valley. Take I-93 to the Campton/Waterville Valley exit (Exit 28) and follow NH 49 through Campton toward Waterville valley. Four and a half miles beyond NH 175 in Campton, turn left (northwest) on Upper Mad River Road and cross the river. Follow this road for 0.7 mile, then turn right onto Orris Road. A large parking areas with space for about 100 vehicles is 0.6 mile up this road. Restrooms are at the parking area. GPS coordinates: 43º 54.24’ N, 71º 35.31’ W.

Trail Snacks & Lunch

Sunscreen

Small Backpack

Sun Glasses/Baseball Cap

NOTES:  The last departing group from the trailhead will be at 10:15 am sharp.  Hikers who would like to have more hiking time should feel free to depart earlier.  Please bring your own lunch and plenty of water for the hike.  At the conclusion of the hike, the Outing Club will provide refreshments and salty snacks in the parking lot.
