The BRC community response to A Call for Character...The Campaign for Birch Rock has been heartwarming. Since my appeal last year approximately $375,000.00 has been raised towards the $500,000.00 Campaign goal. Given the size of our community and competing interests for financial support, this achievement is remarkable and a tribute to our important mission of securing the values of Birch Rock for future generations of campers. It is my fervent hope to announce the completion of A Call for Character...The Campaign for Birch Rock when we gather in Waterford for the 80th celebration next summer on the 22nd of July.

The invested funds from A Call for Character...The Campaign for Birch Rock have been dedicated to supporting Capital projects and to establishing an Endowment fund to make Birch Rock accessible to families of moderate means. To date the return from the Endowment fund has helped to support the tuition expenses for at least a dozen families who sought to provide their sons with the BRC experience last summer. In the last two years, the Capital gifts have enabled Birch Rock to construct a new Boathouse/Multi-purpose facility, a new winterized Chief’s Cabin and the Yurt. Additionally the camp has been finally able to upgrade the road to the Lodge and our Trip program activities... These accomplishments are amazing and will definitely contribute to the longevity of Birch Rock Camp!

The capstone project for the 80th celebration will be a $15,000.00 renovation of long time former Camp Directors Mike & Phyllis Deneault’s original small cabin on the hillside near the campcraft area. The camp community would like to honor Mike and Phyllis Deneault ’30- 70s by naming this cabin Deneault’s Den. We hope to have Mike cut the dedication ribbon and to be a part of Birch Rock’s birthday celebration on July 22, 2006.

Thank you for your contributions to Birch Rock Camp in the past. Please join me for our special 80th celebration and I hope you will be among the supporters who will help to realize the goal of A Call for Character...The Campaign for Birch Rock.

In Friendship,

David C. Weeks ‘70s-
